Oranjestad — Arel Wente, Wente Vineyards Family Estates, California’s oldest, continuously operated, family-owned winery, represented on the island by Arion Wine Company, hosts a different group of ladies for lunch in Aruba each year. The guests, all food & beverage professionals on the island enjoy gourmet cuisine, peppered with wine-chat, and Arel delights in asking them questions about their backgrounds, likings, and experiences, as she finds she understands the island and its people better that way.
On the list of this year’s lunch guests Jennifer Gotze, Yemanja Woodfire Grill, Tamara Berkers, Marriott Aruba Resort & Stellaris Casino, Emilia Lopez Henriquez, Texas de Brazil restaurant, and Raiza Castillo de Lange, of Authentic Cigars.
Assisting Arel Wente, who is the wife of 4th generation wine maker Eric Wente, with her hostess duties Louise Does, of Arion Wine Company.
The group lingered over deliciously paired food and wine at Windows on Aruba, Divi Links. Arel found the view to be spectacular and noted how much she liked the decor, especially the two paintings at the entrance of the restaurant.
Escorting the appetizer, main and shared Petit Grand Dessert, Wente Vineyards Louis Mel Sauvignon Blanc, Wente Vineyards Reliz Creek Pinot Noir and Wente Vineyards Riverbank Riesling.
While guests convened for lunch at about 12noon, they left the restaurant close to 4pm, as they loved sipping wines and engaging in unrushed conversation.
Arel Wente, Owner at Wente Vineyards, from the Livermore Valley in California, has visited the island on numerous occasions, accompanying her husband Eric, while he hosted charity golf tournaments or conducted wine seminars. They both direct the company’s diverse operation with a hands-on style, which they share with all of the Wente family members, including their son, fifth generation Winemaker and Senior Vice-President of Winemaking, Karl D. Wente, who is responsible for all winemaking at Wente Vineyards.
