Winegrower Eric Wente visits Aruba for the 10th Annual Wente Vineyards/Papiamento Restaurant Golf Tournament

Tierra del Sol — Eric Wente, of Wente Vineyards just recently visited Aruba to host the annual golf event, organized in conjunction with successful local wine purveyor, Arion wine Company, and famed Papiamento Restaurant.

The tournament program included a welcome reception for players and sponsors at Papiamento Restaurant on Friday, March, 27, while the tournament was played at Tierra del Sol Golf Course, on Saturday, March 28.

The popular event enjoyed total support from the local golf community, with 128 enthusiastic players signed up for the purpose of fundraising for ‘Telefon pa Hubentud,’ a children’s help-line.

The help-line was picked as this year’s recipient of the funds, in gratitude for its important contribution to child welfare on the island, as it empowers youngsters with information, choices and emotional support.

Eric Wente, Chairman of the Board at Wente Vineyard also serves as the brand ambassador tirelessly crisscrossing the world to promote his palate-pleasing, quality wines.

Wente Vineyard, he explains, California’s oldest, continuously operated, family-owned winery, is lead today by the fourth and fifth generations of the Wente family, marking its 132nd anniversary.  As wine makers, the family blends traditional, innovative and scientific winemaking practices, so that the winery consistently maintain its leadership role in the California winegrowing community, and produces an outstanding portfolio of fine wines.

The winery, Wente proudly reports, has never suspended its operation and even during more than a decade of prohibition, it continued making wines because wine was treated differently than other types of alcohol, for reasons of its role in religious ceremonies, particularly mass. Consequently at the end of prohibition the winery was up and running, and ready to respond to market demands.

The ever enthusiastic, and eloquent Wente shares that the winery draws from approximately 3,000 acres of sustainably farmed estate vineyards to create its well-liked Chardonnays, Cabernet Sauvignons, Merlots and Sauvignon Blancs.

Located just east of San Francisco in the historic Livermore Valley, Wente Vineyards is recognized as one of California’s premier wine country destinations, featuring wine tasting, fine dining and championship golf.

“California wine and the California wine country lifestyle are recognized and appreciated worldwide,” says Eric Wente,  “And our family is dedicated to making superb wines, sustainably produced and affordably priced.”

On a personal note, Wente brings a truly global perspective to the family business as he is very involved internationally with the controlled appellations, designed to define and protect the geographical indication used to identify where the grapes for a wine were grown. He is also highly involved in the drive to incorporate improvements and efficiencies into the winemaking system combining traditions and a modern approach.

As the Chairman of the Board of Directors for the Wine Institute, Wente also serves as the Chairman of the Wine Institute’s International Policy Committee, and is the Chairman of the Research and Education Committee. In these roles, he contributes not just to his own brand but also to the entire industry, in areas of winemaking, sustainability, hospitality, sales and marketing.

Raised at the winery, he is proud of his own two children, Christine and Karl, who are both actively involved in the family business as Fifth Generation Winegrowers.
