The all-you-care-to-drink-and-eat event was hosted by Executive Chef Matt Boland and EPI culinary school students which competed for the best dish, judged by Erwin Husken, Screaming Eagle, the chef who won the People’s Choice Award on the previous night, at the Chef Competition taking place at Pago Pago Restaurant, the festival’s first spectacular event.
Aruba’s artist community presented the sixth annual exhibition, curated by Jan van Straaten of the Westin Aruba Art Gallery.
At the Wine and Food Tasting Guests were encouraged to sample more than 60 varieties of wine by the glass from the USA, Italy, France, Australia, Chile and Argentina, offered in collaboration with the island’s liquor purveyors. Excellent live entertainment by DJ Metropolis and the We Fusion band, contributed to the flawless event orchestrated by Chantal Beke, Beverage Manager & Property Service Culture Trainer and hospitality trainee Rowan Visser, of the food & beverage department in collaboration with Ramiro Rafaël, Director of Catering & Meeting Services and Food & Beverage Director Bas Olde Riekerink.
The young students, all chefs in the making, dazzled guests with their culinary talents, garnering praise and top honors for the Breast of Duck appetizer, prepared and presented by First Place Winners: Ashwin, Nicky, Alexander and Joshua, under the guidance of chef Oscar Steba.
Other distinction included, Second Place Winners with Coconut Grouper, Leandro, Tashi, Alesha and Paul under the guidance of chef Johanita Croes and Third Place Winners with Terrine of Vegetables, Evert, Ivan, Mitchel and Derrick, under the guidance of Chef Darwin Torres.
