Carlson Hotels Vice President of Operations Steve Hedberg, introduced new General Manager Rob Smith to the associates of the Radisson Aruba Resort Casino & Spa during an informal gathering at the resort’s Grand Caribbean Ballroom.
Smith however required no formal introductions as he has been a resident of Aruba for the past 14 years and a frequent local guest at the Radisson, enjoying the property with his family over Mother’s and Father’s Day brunch, visiting the spa and the fitness center and using the pool as a regular guest during his years as the General Manager of the neighboring property, the Wyndham Aruba Resort, later the Westin Aruba Resort, and in the past two years in his capacity as the President & CEO of the Aruba Hotel & Tourism Association.
Smith shared how excited he was to become the new General Manager of the famed Radisson, the flag ship resort and the jewel of the Carlson Hotel chain crown, and pledged to become part of the team as an involved General Manager with an open door policy, and a strong commitment to facilitate the work of the associates any way he can.
Smith brings along rich and diverse experiences having started his career as an assistant server. He reached a general manager’s position, in Charlotte North Carolina, by age 27, then was asked to go to Aruba for an executive position with the Wyndham Resort.
Both Smith & Hedberg fielded some questions from their audience as they conducted a short town’s meeting, before Smith resumed shaking hands and accepting warm hugs, and enthusiastic greetings from his new crew.
Outgoing General Manager Gary Jutz will be concluding his turn in Aruba in November and returning to the USA with his wife Patricia.
