Restaurant Manager Hubert Solagnier at the helm at Amazonia Churrascaria was born on Aruba, an island with a budding tourist industry. He knew as soon as he finished high-school that hospitality will become his profession of choice.
His thirty-six year career took off at the local hotel school in 1973. He worked his way up the executive ladder since then, at some of Arubaâ€™s iconic places such as the Manchebo Beach Resort and the Holiday Inn.
At the Americana, now the Occidental Grand, Hubert really developed his all-around hospitality knowledge as he enjoyed the grand tour of all departments as a management trainee, applying himself to food & beverage, purchasing and cost-control.
Having brushed up on his leadership skills in Holland, he came back to the island to manage the quaint Arubiana Inn. But the restaurant scene tugged at his heartstrings and when the Steamboat Buffet arrived on Palm Beach, Hubert joined the opening crew, serving up to 1,200 meals a day in that fondly-remembered, now defunct establishment.
Recruited to open Tony Romaâ€™s Restaurant Hubert continued to coach fresh crops of restaurant servers and when Amazonia Churrascaria neared opening, the owners could not think of a more appropriate candidate to run their spectacular new Brazilian-style steakhouse.
A natural leader, Hubert put together a stellar staff, delivering, in his words, â€œextremely good service.â€ The food, entrusted to Chef Victor, â€œis always fantastic,â€ he states.
Proud of his staff and the high restaurant standards, Hubert is equally pleased with the academic and professional achievements of his four children, having raised a mechanical engineer, a fitness instructor, a stage manager and an aspiring future notary, his beloved only daughter, Samantha.
Hubert always finds time for his dogs, and his hobbies — deep-sea fishing, golfing, and his membership in the Harley Davidson club of Aruba, he also enjoys an occasional great glass of wine, chatting with restaurant patrons, and welcoming many of them back.
