It could have come right off the pages of Wine Spectator; straight from the finest wine tasting in Napa or Sonoma; but it didn’t. It happened right here in Aruba, at our own La Bodega Wine Store. The unassuming façade belies the superb shop within. Step in and experience for yourself what some very lucky International Friends of Aruba members enjoyed on a recent Friday evening: wine, ambience and knowledge about this impressive inventory.
La Bodega’s very own sommelier, Reuben Carrero, hand picked a stunning array of 3 red and 3 white wines from the Luigi Bosca winery in the Maipu Valley region of Argentina. Once seated around the mammoth wooden table, in the rustically charming room, adorned with wine casks and bricked walls, attention turned to Carrero and the task at hand: cabernet sauvignon, sauvignon blanc, pinot noir, malbec, chardonnay and the highlight of the evening the tasting of the dessert wine.
Although some wine tasters shy away from dessert wines, Carrero planned and executed the perfect pairing of sliced lycee fruit and mandarin oranges to exquisitely compliment the white Gewurtzraminer. Â Thanks to La Bodega, Carrero and Melissa Cavan of IFA, for yet another exceptional event. Information on IFA membership can be found at www.ifaruba.com.
