Dennis van Daatselaar, Marandi & Erwin Husken, Screaming Eagle, won the People’s Choice Award at a Chef Competition taking place at Pago Pago Restaurant, at the Westin Resort, Aruba, on the first night of the 6th annual, Aruba Wine Food & Art Festival. Their appetizer of caramelized korubuto pork belly on sweet and sour vegetables, with deep fried mussels, nam prik mayonnaise and butter poached king crab with herb salad, was an outstanding success. It was paired with Cuvaison, Pinot Noir, by the Aruba Trading Company.
Best Wine Award went to the Aruba Trading Company, and the Best Wine & Food Pairing was won by chef Ludwich Samson, Pam Pam Restaurant & Romar Trading
Ramiro Rafaël, Director of Catering & Meeting Services, reports that the festival unfolding between Thursday, June 3 and Saturday, June 5, 2010, at his resort includes live musical entertainment, art exhibitions, exceptionally elegant cuisine offered by renowned chefs, accompanied by local and international liquor purveyors and wineries, represented by six different countries.
The festival’s first evening on Thursday, June 3, features a Best Chef Competition, with Aruba’s top chefs, presenting signature courses, combined with special wine selections. The chefs featured included Robert Wlodyka & Steven Marra, of the Marriott, working with Gerard Coste & Hector Espinoza, of the Radisson; Erwin Husken, of Screaming Eagle, collaborating with Dennis van Daatselaar, of Marandi, and M.A.J van Dorst, of Tierra del Sol, joining Ludwing Samson of Pam Pam.
Erwin Husken, of the Screaming Eagle was also last year’s award winner, presenting at the 5th Annual Aruba Wine, Food & Art Festival.
