Art for Haiti Makes a Thirty-Eight Thousand Florin Donation to the Red Cross

Stitching Yuda Haiti in collaboration with task force SAN – Sociocultural Action Network – and the Aruba Arts Community sold 90 paintings and art objects on Tuesday February 9th, 2010, at a live auction, held at the Westin Aruba Resort Art Gallery.

More than 40 local artists contributed exceptional work to the show which attracted a very lively audience. The proceeds of the successful auction were handed to the Red Cross representative Thursday, a total of Awg 38,000 which resulted from the collaborative efforts of many individuals and organizations.

Marie-Therese Croes, of Yuda Haiti, thanked all those who gave to the success of the auction, reiterating Haiti’s “L’Union Fair La Force,” unity yields strength, inscribed on the Haitian flag. In her warm works, she thanked the Aruba Art Community and the Westin Art Gallery, the Westin Resort Food & Beverage staff, Interprint, Romar Trading, Martijn Trading, Balance Clinic, the local press, the volunteers, and all those who worked tirelessly to collect funds for humanitarian aid to earthquake stricken Haiti.

Gratitude was sent to SAN a local organization with Haitian roots who delivered a dramatic dance and music presentation with Takai and Friends, interpreting the effects of the disaster. Musical combo E Motivo, who gave a musical rendition of Lend A Hand, a touching song with lyrics by Yolanda & Ruben Croes, asking for brotherly assistance, was also mentioned for its positive impact.

Croes also thanked auctioneer Kenneth Faustin and emcee Rona Coster for facilitating a most enjoyable evening televised by local TV over delicious cheeses and wines.

The Red Cross representatives were also surprised by the Women’s Club of Aruba who took advantage of the congenial gathering to also present their club’s donation, as well as an individual donation from a private member.
