Wichita Villacres, Eco Destination Management, in conjunction with Freddy Muller from Silver Seas Cruises, SITE Chairman International Conference 2009, initiated a scholarship contest among young hospitality executives on the island.

The scholarship contest prize represented a fully sponsored ticket to the Society of International Travel Executives Academy for Young Leaders 2008, taking place August 3rd to 6th in New York City, at The Barclay Hotel New York. ECO Destinations Management, explains Villacres, sponsored the winner’s airline ticket while Silver Seas Cruises paid for the registration and hotel stay. The qualifying candidates had to be young individuals, between the ages of 21 and 35, actively working in the MICE industry, organizing Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions at one of Aruba’s leading hotels. The winner of the SITE Academy scholarship had to demonstrate management capabilities, leadership, team play and willingness to go the extra mile for guest visiting the island. After careful consideration of all entrees ECO Destination Management announced that Gerald Griffith, Sales Coordinator, Hyatt Regency, was selected as the scholarship recipient. “It is fantastic news that he was selected,” says Susan M. Santiago, General Manager, Hyatt Regency.  “The resort certainly wants to recognize this major accomplishment…thanks for your support of this outstanding individual…..we are very fortunate to have him as part of our team!” Villacres reported the scholarship was awarded as an incentive, designed to encourage young hospitality executives to apply themselves and excel in a field representing Aruba’s most important economic pillar.   As a result of his hard work and dedication Griffith will be attending a track of the SITE Conference in New York. The SITE Young Leaders Program was launched in 2005. The mission of the program is to focus on bridging the gap between the generations and creating a strong group of individuals who will become SITE leaders, to ensure the future success of SITE. Members of SITE Young Leaders Program enjoy networking and education at SITE conferences and industry events. As a matter of fact, the island of Aruba will be hosting the SITE conference in 2009.
