At the end of an excellent, most-enjoyable day of golfing, Divi Links in collaboration with Aruba Bank raised Awg 13,180.- for this year’s designated charity, the Mary Joan Breast Cancer Support Group.
The money was presented to the volunteers of the foundation at a lively cocktail party hosted by Window on Aruba, at the Divi Club House.
The Divine Nine was played Sunday by 12 teams of four, in a 4-person scramble format. Head Golf Professional James Kiley who tallied the results in the early afternoon announced Ray & Orlando Rasmijn, Hubert Solagnier and Anton Bernabela, the Ling & Sons team in the first place; the Compra team in second and the Family Golf team in third.
Family Golf Team, made up of two Father & Son pairs, also featured the youngest player, a child golf prodigy, who is nine and played extremely well, according to Kiley.
Managing Director Alex Nieuwmeyer helped present the donation, together with Shanoulle Bikker, Marketing/P.R. Manager, Aruba Bank, and Divi’s Island Marketing & Promotion Manager Tabitha Fecunda.
Enrita Werleman, president of the Mary Joan Breast Cancer Support Group reported that about 50 cases of breast cancer are diagnosed each year on Aruba and that her foundation, named after Mary Joan who died at the age of 32, has been active for the past eleven years.
Werleman thanked Divi for also graciously hosting a golf clinic for her volunteers earlier in the week, and making fund raising for important community causes possible.
Aruba Bank, reports Bikker, has been organizing the Links Charity Golf Tournament for the past five years, this time also in conjunction with R.E. Irausquin which offered a car for the winner of a Hole-In-One, both on the PricewaterhouseCoopers team.
Additional winners for the day included Cees Roks, closest to the pin and Ruben Goedhoop hitting the longest drive.
Colombian Emeralds International provided a watch for the auction which raised additional funds.
