This past Friday evening, the annual fundraising dinner for Animal Rights Aruba (ARA) was hosted by The Westin Aruba Resort and co-sponsored by the Casablanca Casino..

Some 300 members of the local community, as well as several loyal Aruba tourists, bought tickets to the “Jungle Dinner Dance” in support of the organization that promotes the health and well-being of Aruba’s animals.

The dinner marks an ongoing commitment by The Westin Aruba Resort in support of animal welfare.  Over the past few months, pet adoption fairs have been held at the resort, and Aruba’s Animal Shelter recently received a fresh paint makeover compliments of volunteers from The Westin Aruba Resort.

On Friday evening, the resort’s Grand Palm Beach Ballroom was transformed to welcome guests to the sights and sounds of the jungle.  A five-course dinner and wine was served, while guests enjoyed live music from the Robert Jeandor and su Solo Banda Show.  Throughout dinner, guests could also enjoy and purchase art donated by local artists in support of the evening’s fundraising efforts.

Guests also had the chance to win door prizes offered through the generous support of many local businesses.  The grand prize was a week’s stay at the exclusive Peter Island Resort in the British Virgin Islands.  Known as the Caribbean playground of the rich and famous, the prize is valued at more than $10,000.  Former Westin General Manager Matt Balcik made this vacation possible, as the animal lover initiated the support of animal welfare as a “pet project” during his tenure here before his departure to oversee the British Virgin Island’s luxury resort.

Funds raised from Friday evening’s event will go towards projects that include ARA’s  Neuter & Spaying Program-the first line of defense to promote animal welfare and lowering the stray dog and cat population here on the island.
