Christmas came early for the students of the Laura Wernet Paskel school
Kadushi Largo – The management of the Occidental Grand Hotel handed over eight computers to the Laura Wernet Paskel School in Kadushi Largo, fulfilling a promise made earlier this year when the first two computers were donated, to furnish the school with a state of the art computer lab with a total of 10 stations.
Sr. VP of Operations Andres Pichardo reports it was the Prime Minister’s ideas. When he first visited PM Nelson Oduber last year, Pichardo shared the Occidental Grand’s corporate commitment to its destinations offering to support a worthy community cause. Oduber was grateful for the gesture and on Pichardo’s second visit to the island, asked him to spearhead the adoption of the elementary school in Kadushi Largo.
“We adopted an orphanage for neglected kids in the Dominican Republic,” explains Pichardo, ”and wanted to do something similar here. We had a number of options. Finally upon the Prime Minister’s recommendation the Laura Wernet Paskel School was picked.”
Thursday morning, Prime Minister Nelson Oduber, General manager Jesus Cardoso and Sr. VP of Operations, Andres Pichardo, enjoyed meeting the kids and posing for a group picture with them.
Cardoso explains that Occidental Grand Aruba adopted the school since the beginning of last year, and has painted the exterior of the building also installing new windows, repairing and painting the school gate, and the courtyard, sponsoring a Sinterklaas party for the whole school in early December including Sinterklaas gifts, and sponsoring a fabulous Christmas dinner & show with all students in attendance, besides the generous computer lab gift.
The next event, says Mylène Marques, Director of Sales, will be the closing of the school year party which will be held on the property, and finishing painting the school exterior.
